One year after ROC filed a denuncia (legal complaint) with PROFEPA for fishing in the nuclear zone at Espiritu Santo, PROFEPA has done nothing!

It is obvious to us that the most beautiful of the southern gulf Islands Espiritu Santo has no chance of recovering when the authorities in charge of protected areas in Mexico, PROFEPA won’t prosecute fishermen blatantly fishing in the Nuclear Zone at La Lobera  in the Espiritu  Santo Island National Marine Park. This protected area is even a world Heritage site.

What Happened on June 13, 2013 in the Nuclear Zone at Los Islotes

This report was made to Beto the Director of ROC in real real time and a denuncia was immediately filed with Conanp & Profepa

These Pictures were taken 12:38 pm, 30 minutes after tourist boats started calling CONANP  to tell them about the illegal fishing. The coordinates of the boats were  24 35.840 N and 110 24.237 W. For sure they were in the biosphere’s nuclear zone about 150 to 200 feet from the Island.  The names of the boats are The Bahia de La Paz VIII and the Rodriguez VI.  Santisima another Mexican was coming so we asked them to stop by the pangas and tell them to leave also. They called back and said the pangas moved 100 feet and reanchored and started fishing again. We also can have the testimony of Daniel, the captain of the Santisima. THIS REPORT WAS IMMEDIATELY FILED WITH CONANP JUNE 14TH 2014, WHO GAVE IT TO PROFEPA, AS THEY PROSECUTE IN MARINE PROTECTED AREAS. ONE YEAR LATER NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE. HOW DO YOU EXPECT MARINE PROTECTED AREAS (MPA’S) TO WORK IF THERE IS NO CONSEQUENCE FOR FISHING IN THEM.
